We spent a week in Berlin, and there we found the fascinating East Side Galley.
In 1990, the east side of the largest preserved section of the otherwise demolished Berlin Wall was painted by artists from around the world. Despite some remediation in 2009, many of the paintings are in poor condition, damaged by erosion, vandalism and graffiti. It's still a sight to see, but it probably won't last forever. It's a piece of Berlin's history, although Berliners have mixed feelings about it. We liked it, but then we do not have any personal connection with the ugly history of the wall.
